Middle-earth Maps

Explore Tolkien’s world through our high-res interactive guide and live Minecraft server map.

The Geography of Arda: From Lore to Reality

At ArdaCraft, we believe that the landscapes of Middle-earth are an integral part of the story. In many ways, the world itself acts as a character within the narrative. Our project is dedicated to creating the most detailed version of Middle-earth ever made by bridging the gap between Tolkien’s vivid descriptions and scientific realism.

To build this world, we treat Tolkien's legacy as a foundation and layer it with disciplines like geology, botany, and climatology. For example, our team has created a biome map to help fans visualise these diverse environments. This includes everything from the Mediterranean-style flora of Ithilien to the sub-alpine peaks of the Misty Mountains. Our botanists utilised the EuroVegMap to ensure that plant communities in our recreation align with the mythological version of ancient Europe that Tolkien intended.

Our Interactive Map allows users to click on various locales around Middle-earth and find out more about them on our website, whilst our live server map shows an up-to-date version of our 1:58 scale recreation of Middle-earth, with all of the buildings included and player locations displayed. The map encompasses 54 by 43 kilometres of terrain. Finally, the 3D topographical map is a more Google Earth-style version of our work, which perhaps best represents the geographical fidelity we strive for.

We focus on creating a consistency of reality that honours Tolkien’s own rigid attention to the natural world. Whether you are exploring the Shire or braving the desolation of the Black Gate, our maps offer an unparalleled look at the terrain of Arda.
